The picture shows a room in a wealthy Flemish home, with expensive furniture and art objects. On the left side, there is a large cupboard or maybe a part of a bed with bedposts in the shape of columns. Since famous works by Peter Paul Rubens hang on the walls, the painting has been interpreted as showing the artist’s wife and children receiving a guest in the family home.
