Lettering

Young oil-palm tree before pruning. The pruners clear away the weeds round the tree and hack off the lower fronds and the old damp, dead flowers (which swarm with mites). The pruners seldom escape infection with scrub-typhus. There were 68 cases, with 10 deaths, on this estate in 1929 Embossed with photograph studio's stamp in lower right-hand corner: "Miyazaki"
