Lettering

Sympathy: meeting the wounded on their arrival at Modder River. From a photograph by our special photographer, Reinhold Thiele ; drawn by F. de Haenen. ... Lettering continues: "After the battle of Magersfontein the wounded were sent down to the camp at Modder River. They arrived in Red Cross waggons drawn by mules. When the journey was over and the waggons pulled up they were met by their comrades, all eager to hear the news and to sympathise with the poor fellows who had come back after one of the most trying of battles"
