About this work

Description

The man sits slumped in a chair and wears on his head a bonnet with red, green and yellow stripes. He was described by Bramwell, op. cit., p. 147, as follows: "This plate represents a man aged 82, an inmate of the Craiglockhart Workhouse, affected with senile dementia. His sight and hearing were dull, he took little notice of his surroundings, spoke little, and seldom responded to questions. His appetite and general health were good."
