Biographical note

The 'Borghese Gladiator' statue, by Agasias of Ephesus was probably executed after an earlier statue and was exhibited at the Louvre, Paris, from 1815. Previously, it had resided at the Villa Borghese in Rome. This drawing appears to have been taken directly from the statue itself
